Welcome UCSD Faculty and Staff!
This section will provide information and resources for UCSD faculty and staff to increase their understanding of common psychological issues that may be experienced by some UCSD students.
We provide resources on How to Work with Students Following a Crisis. This section may be particularly helpful for those working with students who have experienced trauma. In addition, our "Helping
the Emotionally Distressed Student" handbook provides information
on how to assess and assist students dealing with a variety of
mental health issues and concerns.
CAPS is also providing Red Folder resources for faculty and staff. After much collaboration with multiple UCSD administrative departments, we have developed a downloadable Red Folder for the UCSD community that provides information and contact information when dealing with emergencies or urgent student matters.
CAPS staff is available to provide consultation to your questions regarding mental health matters, campus resources, and community referrals. In addition, if you have concerns about a student, you can contact our offices for assistance. Due to confidentiality laws, we may not be able to provide specific information about your student if s/he is utilizing our services. During normal business hours, you can call our Central Offices at (858) 534-3755. Your call will be forwarded to a psychologist on staff.
If you would like to refer your student to CAPS, please have him or her contact our offices at (858) 534-3755 to make an appointment. If the matter is urgent and your student must be seen immediately, she or he can come to our Urgent Care services at our Central Offices at Galbraith Hall 190. If you need consultation on how to refer students to CAPS, please call us at (858) 534-3755.
If you have an urgent matter or an emergency regarding a student during normal business ours (Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm), please call our offices immediately at (858) 534-3755. If a student has an urgent matter outside normal business hours, please call our emergency number at (858) 534-HELP.
CAPS provides presentations to academic and non-academic departments on various mental health topics. Recent presentations include: How to refer students to CAPS, Warning Signs with Students, Suicide Prevention, and Red Folder Resources. If your department would like a presentation on a mental-health related topic in order to better assist your work with students, please contact CAPS at (858) 534-3755.
