Sport Psychology and Outreach Response Team
CAPS and UCSD Athletics have partnered to develop a comprehensive model of service delivery to Scholar Athletes (SA) and the Athletic department. Following the guidelines set forth by the NCAA Mental Health Best Practices, this partnership has developed the CAPS SPORT Model (Sport Psychology and Outreach Response Team). This model includes clinical services, crisis response, consultation, mental health screenings, drop-in mentoring, trainings, and opportunities for the SA and department to flourish in their mental and emotional well-being. CAPS and the SPORT Team have developed specialized services for our scholar athletes. In additional services offered to all UC San Diego students, scholar athletes are offered additional appointment types to reduce barriers to accessing services. SPORT Brief Telephone Assessments

CAPS Provides specialized initial phone assessments to identify scholar athletes needs and provide appropriate treatment plans. This may mean scheduling a follow-up Initial Evaluation, a referral to outside providers, connecting with campus resources. See instructions below on how to request a SPORT Brief Telephone Assessment.

Instructions:
- Call the CAPS Central Office and indicate you are a scholar athlete and you would like a SPORT appointment
- e.g., "I'm an athlete and I would like a SPORT appointment."
- The scheduler will then make a SPORT appointment for you.
- Please follow appointment check in instructions provided by the scheduler.

SPORT Initial Evaluations

If after your SPORT Brief Telephone Assessment you were recommended to schedule an initial evaluation (IE), CAPS has dedicated/reserved Initial Evaluations specifically for scholar athletes.

Instructions:
- Your SPORT BTA provider will assist you in scheduling a SPORT Initial Evaluations. They may direct you to call the CAPS Central Office and indicate you are a scholar athlete and that you were referred for a SPORT Initial Evaluation.
- Please follow appointment check in instructions provided by the Brief Telephone Assessment provider or scheduler.

The SPORT team will continue to provide consultation to all ICA teams. The SPORT program has worked with ICA to address the needs coaches, trainers, and administrators. The following table describes our specific tasks and areas where we will be expanding the program.
